Due to the outstanding academic achievements and great contributions to human communication between China and abroad, DMU doctoral degree foreign student Myint Myint Maw from Myanmar was awarded “Outstanding International Student Scholarship" of year 2018 issued by Ministry of Education of China, and was invited to attend the opening ceremony of the 11th China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week.  

The "Outstanding International Student Scholarship" was set up by Chinese Ministry of education in 2015. The aim is to expand the radiance and influence of Chinese government scholarship, to cultivate more outstanding international talents, and to reward outstanding foreign students who have excellent academic achievements, outstanding scientific research ability, and actively participating in various cultural and social activities.

In the morning of July 26th, the 11th China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week, jointly organized by Ministry of Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the people's Government of Guizhou Province of China, was officially opened in Guiyang city. Government officials from China, Thailand, Myanmar, Singapore and Laos, thousands of distinguished guests, experts, scholars, and student representatives attended the opening ceremony. The theme of this term China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week is "A New Beginning for Educational Cooperation, a New Future for Cultural Exchange", which aims to further strengthen cooperation and integration between China and ASEAN countries in the fields of education and cultural exchanges and make positive contributions to the peaceful development of the region.

At the opening ceremony, Vice Minister of Education of China Tian Xuejun, and Vice Minister of education of Thailand H.E.Sophon Napathorn jointly issued the award to Myint Myint Maw and other five foreign students from ASEAN countries who also received the scholarship for this year. During the event, Myint Myint Maw also had a cordial talk with Minister of Education of Myanmar H.E.Myo Thein Gyi and took photos together.
 
  
 
   
 
As an outstanding young teacher of Myanmar Maritime University, Myint Myint Maw, funded by the Chinese government scholarship, studied Chinese and obtained master's degree in Marine Engineering from September 2005 to December 2008 in DMU, and studied for doctoral degree in Marine Engineering from September 2013 to June 2018 in DMU. During the study period, she published many SCI, EI retrieval papers, actively participated in the work of international students in school and made great contributions to the construction of DMU Alumni Association of Myanmar. She was awarded Chinese Government Outstanding International Student Scholarship in year 2016 and Outstanding Member of Association of International Students Affairs of DMU in year 2017. Being grateful to DMU and Chinese government, Myint Myint Maw hopes to continue to make efforts and contribute more to the promotion of Chinese traditional culture and advanced science and technology, as well as the cultural exchanges between China and other countries in the future.

 

This is the recognition and encouragement to the academic level and contribution of Myint Myint Maw (Miao Min), and also the affirmation and encouragement to the school for upcoming students. In the past three years, 7 overseas students have won the "Scholarship for Outstanding Overseas Students in China". The school will continue to practice the school motto of "Acquire Universal Knowledge, to practice good virtue". In order to build the world's first-class Maritime University, the school will continue to make persistent efforts and climb the peak in the study field for students coming to China, and we believe that the future of the school will be more and more bright in China.
