A few days ago, Tursunova Muqaddas, a Tajik student graduated from Dalian Maritime University with a master's degree in Software Engineering embarked on the journey of returning home. Together with her on the journey returning to home country is a kitten she had in China. In order to take the kitten home, she specially chose the flight that can carry pets and went through corresponding entry and exit procedures.

"It's a very common cat in China, but I've taken it as my family member." said Tursunova Muqaddas with very fluent Mandarin.

Tursunova Muqaddas is from Penjikent, Tajikistan. In 2018, she applied to study in Dalian after graduating with bachelor’s degree. And with one year’s Chinese language study, she entered Dalian Maritime University as a graduate student. She said that she had engraved the school motto "The sea embraces all rivers and help the world with virtue" in her heart from the first day of enrollment.

She said, "I am very grateful to China for giving me the opportunity to study abroad, and I am very glad to be able to come to the beautiful Dalian and realize my dream of studying at the internationally renowned Dalian Maritime University. I want to be a friendly messenger of Chinese culture, tell the story of China to the world, pass on China's ideas to more people, and make my own efforts to promote the 'the Belt and Road' initiative and the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind."

Last October, Tursunova Muqaddas participated in the Global Sustainable Transport Talent Training Program. 80 foreign youth from 34 countries spent two colorful weeks in Beijing and Shenzhen. This made her know more about China and have a new understanding of many things.

"Everyone's language, culture and customs are different. What they all have in common is that they have learned Chinese. It's a magical feeling that I learned a language, and I can communicate with Chinese people in this language as well as with people from other countries." She said.

During her study in China, Tursunova Muqaddas made many friends. In addition to Chinese friends, others came from Germany, South Korea, Uzbekistan, Russia, Portugal, Egypt and other countries. Some have graduated and still often communicate through wechat after returning to their respective countries.

"After we are familiar with each other, there will be more questions. Some people ask me why I wear a headscarf, and I will explain patiently. I also ask them my questions. These exchanges help to enhance mutual understanding between people of all countries. Young people of different languages and cultures have made progress and grown up together and established deep friendship. I think all overseas students in China have a resonance with this point. This is the contribution and hope that China's opening up of education has brought to the world." Tursunova Muqaddas said.

During her participation in the Global Sustainable Transport Talent Training Program in Beijing, she was very proud to represent the young people of her country in such an international exchange program. That night, she wrote a letter to her father thanking him for his support.

Tursunova Muqaddas's father works in a joint venture in her hometown. She remembers that when she was a child, Chinese friends often came to her home as guests. "I could use chopsticks when I was 7 years old! At that time, I was very curious about the Chinese people and felt that they looked very serious. I also asked my father, 'can they laugh?' now I still think it's very interesting."

After studying in China, Tursunova Muqaddas said she felt the enthusiasm of the Chinese people. Her supervisor and teachers at the International Students’ Education Center are very concerned about her. She also enjoys the beautiful environment of Dalian. On weekends, she often goes to the seaside to barbecue and play games with her classmates, and gets together with her compatriots to feel the beauty of the sea.

"Dalian is my second hometown. Now I am used to the environment and diet here. I will miss the sea and seafood in Dalian and the convenience of mobile payment after I return home..."
