Tips for Norovirus Prevention


Recently, some cases of norovirus infection happened in some places. In order to help our international students have a better understanding of the virus and take well prevention measures, here we collected some tips for norovirus prevention:


一、Main information about norovirus



Norovirus is the main infectious agent of acute gastro-enteritis, the main symptoms after infection are diarrhea, emesis,fever, nausea,bellyache etc. In recent years, the norovirus has been transferred globally with occasional cluster cases happened in schools. The period between October to March is always the high season of norovirus.



The norovirus can be transferred in many ways, and the duration of the disease usually lasts for 2-3 days with most of people self-cured within 2-3 days. Children, the elderly and people with underlying health problems may have more serious symptoms or complications.



The norovirus can be transferred through food, water, excreta or vomit from infection people, contaminated hands or items, or aerosol from vomits etc.


二、How to prevent the norovirus in daily life:


1、Keeping good eating and drinking habits. Pay attention to food hygiene, clean the fruits and vegetables well, and cooked the food (especially seafood such as shellfish) thoroughly before eating.


2、Maintaining good hygiene habits: Always wash your hands with soaps and fluid water especially before eating or processing food, and after going to toilet or processing vomits or faeces.


3、Maintaining good environmental hygiene: Regularly disinfect tableware, daily supplies, and living environment. Vomits should be timely cleaned and related disinfection should be done.


4、Avoid going to public places: Reduce the times of going to public gathering places to avoid cross infection.


三、What to do if infected by norovirus?


1、Immediately contact teachers of International Students’ Education Center, so that the school can help you to search for medical care and conduct related work timely.


2、Conducting self-isolation. If you have the symptoms of norovirus, please isolate yourself to prevent virus transfer.


3、No need to panic. The symptoms of norovirus are usually slight,the disease duration is usually short and patients can recover well. There is no need to panic for the virus and please pay attention to have good rest and have healthy and light diet.
