Welcome the new year with songs and laughter.The 23rdof the lunar Decemberiscommonly known asLittle New Year, which marks that the Spring Festival is coming closer.In order to enrichinternationalstudents’life during theirwinter vacationon campus andenable them to have a deeper understanding oftraditional Chinese culture and customs, the International Students’ Education Center(ISEC)heldthecultural experience activity in theTraditional CultureClassroom on January 25, 2022, in accordance with the rules for epidemic prevention and control.ISECcarefully prepared traditional Chinese food such asZaotang, sweet melon, nuts and Chinese style tiger figurine forinternationalstudents.A total of16 international students from 12 countriesjoined together with ISEC teachers to celebrate the Little New Year together.
TheChinese teacher,Zhang Yu,first introduced the origin andtraditional customs of theLittle New Yearforstudents.Theywatched the video with the theme of theLittle New Yearprepared byMsZhang,as well astastedZaotangand sweet melon.With the superposition of vision and taste,students not onlydeeply felt thebroad and profound Chinese culture, but also hada strong interest in Chinese traditional customs.
Pasting paper-cuts is also an indispensable custom for theLittle New Year, soISECprepared paper-cuts with characteristicsof the Tiger Yearfor students.From the beginningthey didn’t know how to make it and from where they could begin to make it. After the assistance of teachers and schoolmates, they finished their own paper-cuts in surprise.Chinese traditional elementssuch asChinese knots, lanterns, tigers, blessing bags, firecrackersmakestudentsinterested inChinese traditional customs.Theclassroomwas full of laughter and joy.
Because every student made an excellent piece of works,the selection of the most excellent works was changed tothe on-site lottery.Teachers selected four lucky students from the lottery box and awardedthemprizes. The activity was successfullyended up withthe exciting lottery.Every student gained a lot from it and still wanted to participate the same activity. After this activity, students furtherknewthetraditional Chinese New Year, feltthe charm of Chinese customs, and deepenedtheirunderstanding oftraditional Chinese culture.
