The Lantern Festival(the 15thday of the first lunar month)of the Year of the Tigerfell onFebruary 15th. It is the night of the first full moon of the Chinese Lunar New Year, whichhasextraordinary significance in Chinaduring which all Chinese family members will reunion together to taste Tangyuan. In order to letinternationalstudents truly feel the customs of China and the warmth of home, theInternationalStudents’EducationCenter organized the Lantern Festival activities.Directorsof the center gathered withinternationalstudentson campusto taste dumplings, guess lantern riddles and make lanterns to celebrate the Lantern Festival.
Chinese teacher Ms.He Jundan gavethe studentsa lively introduction of Lantern Festival, customs of different placesas well as the differences ofYuanxiao and Tangyuan. The students marveled at the broad and profound Chinese culture,whileshowingtheir curiosityaboutTangyuan. When the steaming and colorful dumplings are brought to the table, the students can't wait to taste them. The soft, waxy and sweet dumplings with different tasteswere highly praised which tastedsweet in the mouth andmadehearts warm.
The traditional Lantern Festival is inseparable from lanterns and riddle guessing activities. With the help of the teachers,studentscompleted the lanternswith different shapes. In the laughter,variouslantern riddles were revealed, and the carefully prepared small gifts brought surprises to everyone. The interesting activities made students deeply feltthe customs andcharm of Chinese festival.
A series of activities to celebrate the Spring Festival not only made international studentsfullyexperience thecustoms and culture ofChinese New Year,but alsodeeply feel the warmth and kindness of Chinese people. Though coming from different cultures, DMU international students became closer through series of celebration activities. Together, let’s welcome a fresh and happy new year!
