On the afternoon of September 8th, the 2026 Autumn Semester Entrance Orientation and Legal Publicity for International Students at Dalian Maritime University(DMU) was successfully held at the International Students’ Education Center(ISEC). More than 90 international students from 33 countries around the world gathered together to listen to the "first lesson of school", systematically understand the institutional norms and procedures of studying and living in China, and strengthen their awareness of safety and the rule of law.
Ms. Peng Xuefei, Deputy Director of the ISEC, attended the event and delivered a speech. She introduced the century old maritime education characteristics of DMU, its advantages and influence in maritime education and international shipping talent cultivation, and encouraged students to cherish their time in school, uphold the DMU spirit of "firmness, rigor, diligence, and exploration", and make good use of school resources to achieve academic goals; to actively understand and abide by Chinese laws, regulations, and school rules, respect multiculturalism in learning Chinese and cross-cultural communication, and strive to become a cultural exchange ambassador with both professional abilities and international perspectives.
In the first stage of the activity, the responsible staff members of each department of the ISEC introduced the core functions and scope of work of the department, and provided detailed explanations of the procedures, communication channels, and consultation methods related to the study and life of international students. Subsequently, police officers from the Dalian entry and exit management department were invited to enter the campus to conduct exclusive legal lectures on core topics such as visa and residence permit processing, accommodation registration standards, and legal stay and residence. They also analyzed the legal consequences of "three illegal" behaviors in depth with real cases. After the lecture, the police team processed visa interviews for the new students on site, organically combining policy lectures with practical services.
After the law publicity, the staff of the ISEC provided a detailed explanation of the latest version of the "Dalian Maritime University International Student Handbook" to all new students. As an exclusive reference book developed by the ISEC based on years of experience in international student management, the new version of the manual comprehensively covers various aspects of studying in China, including laws and regulations, enrollment management, daily management, teaching management, scholarship management, accommodation management, etc. It provides clear behavioral norms for new students and has become a "portable guide" for international students studying and living at DMU.
This entrance orientation not only completed the introduction of the system and the preaching of the rule of law, but also effectively dissolved the sense of unfamiliarity of new students when they first arrived in a foreign country through face-to-face interaction and communication. Next, the ISEC will continue to follow up on the adaptation of new students and carry out a series of activities such as academic admission education, introduction of library data resources, campus cultural experience, and city visits, to create a safe, orderly, friendly, and inclusive campus environment for international students and help everyone smoothly start a new chapter at Dalian Maritime University.
