As one of the most advanced ocean training ship in the world, the Yu Kun vessel of Dalian Maritime University is the 1stnavigation teaching and training vessel of China which was designed and built domestically. The Yu Kun was put into use from year 2008, and compared with other training vessels internationally, it was especially designed for the use of navigation major student teaching and training, with more reasonable spaces for teaching, practice and scientific research, higher standard of cabins, more functional region distribution. The Yu Kun travels around costal regions and important ports domestically and abroad every year, to serve cadet training, scientific research of navigation and transportation fields. As a landmark in navigation education industry around the world, the Yu Kun has played significant role in training, education, scientific research, international exchanges and cooperation of DMU and China.
In order to help DMU international students have a chance to go closer and have a better understanding of Yu Kun, ISEC established the lecturePractice learning on DMU training vessel YU KUNas one of the most important sessions of“Blue Gene”series of professional lectures of this semester, and have invited top export of ship navigation Captain. Prof. Fan Zhongzhou to be the instructor. Meanwhile, to meet the need of international students that can not come to university because of covid-19 and ensure the education scope of the lecture, after careful discussion and consideration, we decided to do the lecture both online and offline, which means assigning international student representatives going on board Yu Kun to do on site learning and practice while recording the whole procedure and broadcast the video later to other international students. This has been a new trial for practical training courses in areas of teaching model, content, medium and platform.
Aftercareful preparation and arrangement, international student representatives, photographers of school, staff members of ISEC arrived at Yu Kun in the early morning of Nov.30thto meet with Prof. Fan. All parts related get ready quickly and started the on site learning and videoing at once. Prof. Fan made detailed introduction of Yu Kun’s general information, construction and function of each part, daily work of captain and cadets etc. International students closely followed Prof. Fan’s instruction while raising questions at times. Fromship’s bow, anchor, main deck, bridge, lifeboat, engine room, to captain’s cabin, C/E’s cabin classroom, trainee’s cabin etc, with the professional instruction of Prof. Fan, international students had a thoroughly understandingofYu Kun.A whole day passed so quickly, and theysaid it’s such a wonderful and unforgettable experience!
International students that didn’t have the chance of on site learning on Yu Kun don’t need to worry, because we are working on the video of this lecture and will broadcast the video online to our international students as soon as possible.
