While saying farewell to the pomp of summer, Dalian is coming into late autumn. The campus of DMU is decorated with golden gingko, orange maple leaves, and verdant pines and cypresses. Students are busy with their studies and are immersed in the charm and harvest of autumn. In order to let international students better feel the beauty of autumn, Dalian and China, the International Students’ Education Center organized international students in Dalian to visit Lushunkou District on November 4 for a special and unforgettable cultural experience.
Everyone set out early and arrived at Laotie Mountain at the southernmost tip of Liaodong Peninsula. Laotieshan Cape is the symbol of the northern end of the famous natural boundary between the Yellow Sea and the Bohai Sea, and has the reputation of "one mountain bears two seas". The century old lighthouse -- Laotieshan lighthouse has experienced great changes in history, such as the Sino Japanese Jia Wu sea fight in 1894 and the Russo Japanese War of 1904. Everyone climbed up the winding mountain road, intoxicated with the magnificent spectacle of the "boundary between the Yellow Sea and the Bohai Sea", and marveled at the surging force of the huge waves hitting the bergamot reef. Here, the masterstroke of natural landscape is closely integrated with the historical accumulation of Liaodong Peninsula, quietly showing the uniqueness and charm of Laotie Mountain to the world.
Later, students came to the plant dyeing studio located in Laotieshan subdistrict. The teachers here gave a detailed explanation of the historical development, category characteristics and uses of "plant dyeing", a traditional Chinese art, and guided them to make plant dyeing works step by step. Through hands-on operation, the traditional plant dyeing process of "wringing dye (tie dye)" gradually unveils its mystery. After each process, everyone's work is a surprise and a work of art. Everyone praises this traditional process for its charm!
After the trip of planting and dyeing, students visited the "National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit" and the "National First-class Museum" Lushun Museum. The Lushun Museum, which has more than 60000 cultural relics in its collection, has surpassed the value of the museum itself. It is the half of the modern history of Lushun Port, which has experienced many vicissitudes in the long colonial rule, and the epitome of the vicissitudes of Dalian and even modern China for a hundred years. As soon as the students stepped into the museum, they felt the ripples of the annual rings. They carefully read the sediment behind each piece of exhibits, and the historical stories and development process reappeared in front of everyone.
Finally, the students came to the Solar Valley Scenic Area. The beginning of November in the best viewing period of golden ginkgo trees. Pieces of ginkgo leaves fall with the wind, as if they are telling countless historical stories and countless humanistic feelings of the city. Standing there, the students were deeply attracted and took out their mobile phone clocking records to freeze the most beautiful autumn in Lushun at this moment.
The International Students’ Education Center will continue to "tell a good story about China, spread a good voice of China, and show a credible, lovely, and respectable image of China". With more colorful series of activities to perceive China, it will enable students to better understand Chinese culture, go deeper into Chinese society, and promote exchanges and mutual learning among different civilizations and common prosperity.
