French Student FAYET MAXIME Attended International Academic Conference and Shared Research Findings
November 13, 2025

On November 12th-13th, 2025, FAYET MAXIME, a French student of DMUs 2025 China Link Program, attended the 18th International Symposium on the Sustainable Development of Urban Transport Systems (THNS Forum) in Shanghaiwhich was held by Tongji University and Institut Polytechnique de Paris-Ecole nationale des ponts et chaussées. During the forum, based his research result, he delivered an academic presentation titled "MINING BICYCLE SHARING SYSTEM STATION FUNCTIONS CONSIDERING BUILT ENVIRONMENT: A CASE STUDY IN LYON."

THNS 2025 is an influential international academic forum in the field of sustainable urban transportation. In his presentation, FAYET MAXIME shared his research based on a case study of Lyon, France, focusing on the relationship between bicycle-sharing station functions and the surrounding built environment. Through data mining and analysis, the study explored the impact of urban spatial characteristics on the functional usage of bicycle-sharing systems, providing valuable insights for optimizing the layout of these systems and promoting urban green travel. His report was detailed, offered a novel perspective, and sparked active discussion and interest among the attending experts.

Introduced by College of Transportation Engineering, FAYET MAXIME participated in China Link Program at DMU from May to July 2025 and was supported by the Chinese Government Scholarship under China Scholarship Council of the Ministry of Education. During his conference presentation, he specifically expressed his sincere gratitude to the China Scholarship Council of the Ministry of Education and Dalian Maritime University for providing this valuable learning and research opportunity in China. He stated that during his time at DMU, he not only deeply engaged in academic research activities but also personally experienced the academic atmosphere and campus culture of DMU, finding the experience highly rewarding. China's rapid development and rich cultural heritage impressed him, and he expressed a strong desire to return to China, to continue exploring and learning.

FAYET MAXIME's presentation not only showcased his preliminary research achievements in the field of sustainable transportation but also reflected the positive outcomes achieved by Dalian Maritime University in cultivating international talent and fostering international research collaboration. China Link Program provides high-level academic platforms for international students, effectively promoting academic exchange and cross-cultural understanding among young scholars from China and abroad.

Conference Background

The International Symposium on Sustainable Development of Urban Transportation Systems (THNS Forum) was established as a project under the agreement on urban sustainable development signed between the Chinese Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (former Ministry of Construction) and the French Ministry of Ecology, Energy, Sustainable Development, and the Sea in 2007. The agreement was renewed in 2015 between the Chinese Ministry of Transport and the French Ministry of Ecology, Energy, and Sustainable Development. Since its inception in 2008, the THNS Forum has consistently adhered to its aim of promoting high-quality international academic exchange in the field of transportation. Its topics cover cutting-edge areas such as system operation technology innovation, intelligent systems, urban planning, vehicle electrification, and autonomous driving. Held annually since 2008, the forum has attracted over 2,400 participants from more than 20 countries. The theme of the 18th International Symposium on Sustainable Development Urban Transportation Systems was "THNS 2025: The Value of Transportation." and held both online and offline (in Shanghai) on November 12-13, 2025.
