To welcome the 2024 batch freshmen, the Dalian Maritime University "Opening Ceremony and Welcoming Party of the 2024 Freshmen" was held on September 14th (Saturday) at 18:00 at the Xishan Sports Stadium of the school. Relevant school leaders, comprehensive management institutions, teaching and research units, support and guarantee institutions, school enterprise leaders and teacher representatives, student work cadres, training instructors, etc. attended the opening ceremony. Undergraduate, graduate, and international students of 2024 batch attended the opening ceremony.
At the opening ceremony, Xu Minqiang, Secretary of the Party Committee of the university, wore the school emblems for new student representatives including Hussain ABI, a master's student majoring in Marine Engineering from Pakistan, marking that the 2024 students have become true DMUers, to inherit the DMU motto "learning from all rivers, and benefiting all corners of the world", and jointly shoulder the responsibilities entrusted by the times.
At the opening ceremony, KIWA YANZA JONATHAN, a 2024 master's student majoring in law, delivered a speech on behalf of international students. As a bachelor's degree graduate in law from the university, Li He from the Democratic Republic of Congo chose to continue pursuing a master's degree in law at DMU. He said, "In my heart, the word 'Haishi' not only means vastness like the ocean, but also serves as a bridge and link connecting me with the world. Therefore, after graduating from undergraduate program, I am even more determined to continue studying at DMU." With excellent grades and a bachelor's degree from the university, he has developed a strong interest in international law and maritime law, and is determined to continue exploring the mysteries of legal cooperation from a global perspective. He said, "In recent years, China Africa cooperation has continued to deepen. As a Congolese national, I have witnessed firsthand the positive changes that the cooperation between China and Congo has brought to our country. As a law major, I hope to use my knowledge to contribute to the promotion of friendly cooperation between China and Africa in the future!" His speech not only tells his personal growth story at DMU, but also expresses the deep emotions of many international graduates towards DMU and China, as well as the infinite expectations of new international students. It has aroused strong resonance and warm response among the Chinese and foreign students present.
In the subsequent welcoming party, new international students sang the song "Running Haida" together, demonstrating their positive spirit of seeking knowledge, sharing, and embracing the future. The splendid performance, together with those of Chinese students, expressed the dertermination of DMU students with different skin colors, languages, and cultural backgrounds, to promote the construction of a community with a shared future for mankind.
With the continuous promotion of internationalization construction of the university, more and more outstanding international youth choose to study at DMU. They experienced the charm of Chinese language and traditional culture, learn the most advanced knowledge and concepts of higher maritime education, witness the rapid development of Chinese society, and deeply understand Chinese concepts. They grew rapidly at DMU and planted the seeds of loving DMU, loving China, and aspiring to serve the development of global transportation in their hearts. We believe that with the continuous development of the school's international student education work, there will be more international youth studying and growing up at DMU, and telling the story of China's higher maritime education to the world.

Good evening,everyone!
My name is KIWA YANZA JONATHAN, from the Democratic Republic of Congo. I am a Master's student in Law at the Law School of 2024. Today, as a representative of international students, I feel honored and excited to speak!
From a young age, my father told me that 'knowledge is like an ocean, only through continuous exploration can we reach the other shore of wisdom'. DMU's profound academic background, outstanding faculty, and broad international exchange platform have provided me with a stage to realize my dreams and laid a solid foundation for my future career development. The two words' Haishi 'not only mean vastness like the ocean in my heart, but also serve as a bridge and bond connecting me with the world. Therefore, after graduating from undergraduate program, I became even more determined to continue my studies at DMU.
During my undergraduate studies, I passed the Chinese Proficiency Test Level 5 in one attempt and actively participated in various academic exchanges, activities, cultural practices, and volunteer services, deeply realizing the importance of cross-cultural communication. With a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and DMU culture, I love China and DMU from the bottom of my heart! At the same time, I have developed a strong interest in international law and maritime law, which are like lighthouses in the ocean, guiding me to continue exploring the mysteries of legal cooperation from a global perspective.
In recent years, China Africa cooperation has continued to deepen, achieving significant results in various fields from infrastructure construction to economic and trade exchanges, from cultural exchanges to technological cooperation. On September 5th, 2024, the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China Africa Cooperation was held. Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech titled "Joining Hands to Promote Modernization and Build a Community of Shared Future". As a Congolese national, I have witnessed firsthand the positive changes that the cooperation between China and Congo has brought to our country. As a law major, I hope to apply my knowledge in the future and contribute my expertise to promoting friendly cooperation between China and Africa!
At this moment, I want to say that I am sincerely grateful to DMU and China! I look forward to working hand in hand with every student present here to write our own wonderful chapter and contribute our youth and strength to building a more harmonious and prosperous world!
