On the afternoon of June 8th, with the atmosphere of youth and festive celebrations by the Xinhai Lake, the 5th International Cultural Festival of Dalian Maritime University, with the theme of "Gathering at DMU and Embracing the Beauty of the Harmonious World", opened in front of the International Students’ Education Center building to celebrate the 115th anniversary of Dalian Maritime University. Vice President Prof. Zeng Qingcheng and other leaders attended the event, and more than a thousand Chinese and foreign teachers and students from both DMU and outside the school participated in the event, enjoying the DMU international cultural carnival.
Prof. Zeng Qingcheng delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, welcoming Chinese and foreign students from all over the world to gather by the Xinhai Lake to commemorate the 115th anniversary of China's higher maritime education together. He expressed that culture is the link and bridge for communication and exchange among people from all over the world. He hopes that students can fully showcase the charm of traditional cultures of each country and share the beauty of culture and harmony here, and wishes for everlasting friendship among all people!
Prof. Liu Shaoman, director of the International Students’ Education Center, presented graduation souvenirs to the 2024 graduating international students and encouraged everyone to inherit the spirit of DMU and continue to create excellent results in their future journey.
This cultural festival has set up two major sections: cultural exhibition booths from various countries and stage cultural performances. More than 200 Chinese and foreign students from nearly 30 countries participated in cultural exhibitions and cultural performances. They are dressed in traditional costumes and showcasing their country's traditional culture, specialty cuisine, and craft products in carefully arranged booths. At the same time, traditional Chinese booths such as Hanfu, lacquer fans, traditional Chinese medicine sachets, calligraphy, folk music etc. are also particularly dazzling, forming a colorful cultural forest together with other countries, attracting people to stop and watch, and the scene is filled with crowds.
At the same time, the atmosphere on the central stage continued to soar, with more than 30 cultural and artistic programs showcased by Chinese and foreign students. There were hot African and Latin dances, traditional southeast Asian songs and dances, the "Song of Friendship" by Chinese and Pakistani students, the "Hot Passion" brought by North Korean students, the "Running DMU" sung by students from various countries, and the "Amani" praying for world peace. Among the exotic cultural performances, the traditional Chinese Sichuan opera face changing and folk music performances constantly brought surprises to the scene, making people marvel at the charm of traditional culture. In the campus of DMU, different languages and cultures converged to form the most sincere love and anticipation. The atmosphere on and off stage was like the warm and joyful weather under the scorching sun.
This event also includes a lucky draw and check-in section. Teachers and students who entered with their boarding passes and collected enough check-in stamps had the opportunity to receive cultural and creative gifts such as refrigerator stickers, luggage tags, and commemorative bracelets with the words "Dalian Maritime University 5th International Cultural Festival" printed on them. They also had the opportunity to participate in the lucky draw and receive gifts from Nongfu Spring Company.
